BECA GIRASOL

Founder of a small scholarship established to cultivate and support artists local to the village of San Marcos, Durango, Mexico, where my father is from. The age range of participants was from 10 years old to 76 with media ranging from drawing on paper to sculpture and fiber art.

The awards were given on a top 3 basis with a cash award and the opportunity for all artists to showcase and sell their artwork in an exhibition where all money made from sold art goes to the artist.

The first iteration of this scholarship was awarded in August 2023 and is expected to continue being awarded yearly. The 2023 awards were generously supported in part by Andrew Witkin.
