Erika López Torres is a multidisciplinary Latina artist based in Boston, Massachusetts. She was born and raised in East Los Angeles and Moreno Valley, California to Mexican immigrant parents.
Her work explores conversations about women’s roles in Mexican culture within family dynamics. She emphasizes taking up space as a woman in roles that continue to be heavily gendered in rural Mexico. She emphasizes the strength of matrilineal care and spiritual practices through passed down traditions such as embroidery, crochet, and paper mache.
López Torres holds a BA in Art with a minor in Art History and
Anthropology from UMass Boston.
López Torres has been exhibited at Kathryn Shultz Gallery (Cambridge Arts Association), University Hall Gallery at UMass Boston, and Scollay Square Gallery.
